ERNST – Vocals

BIO:

After my first divorce I was staying with some friends in South Shields when I met Andy the bassist, and remained friends since. In 2021 Andy told me that his band were looking for a new vocalist. I hadn’t sung since my voice broke in junior school and I had to leave the choir because of it so I thought nothing of it at the time. The seed was however planted in my mind so I started working on my voice. I then took the plunge and asked Andy if his band still needed a vocalist. The rest is history and I started singing for DENIAL. It was a rough start and a lot of vocal training was required but the lads from the band stood by me and eventually things started to fall in place.

Born to an Afrikaans mother and German father in Durban on the east coast of South Africa, I moved to the North East of England in 2008. Singing was actually not my first role in a band. While studying Software Engineering at the University of South Africa I played drums for The Meadow as well as Synthesaga. It was then where my love for all forms of rock, and particularly metal music matured and sculpted the person I am today. I was then stupid/lucky enough to fall in love with an English woman so I emigrated to be with her and left my drums behind.

My favourite song in the band is 100 Months and was written by predecessor Sean. The message is so strong I’m actually jealous that I never wrote it.

My musical influences include Metallica, Rammstein, Black Sabbath, Trivium, Ill Nino, Fear Factory, Slipknot and As I Lay Dying to name a few. You can tell by my music taste that  I was born in the mid-80s. That makes me the baby of the band.

My motto in life is this: “Give your all at everything you do or don’t bother doing it at all.”
